Job summary

Sanderson is seeking a Senior SQL Server Developer to own critical data systems, initially alongside an established Technical Architect. You will mentor a SQL Developer and help modernise the data estate within a private equity-backed environment, with clear opportunities to evolve into an architectural leadership role.

The role blends hands-on SQL development, performance tuning, database engineering and strategic platform development, across legacy and modern data landscapes.

Qualifications

• Experience across legacy and modern data environments.
• Strong database design and architecture skills.
• Performance tuning and optimisation experience.
• Experience with data warehousing concepts.
• Experience building or supporting modern data platforms.
• End-to-end ownership of technical solutions.
• Experience mentoring developers.
• Ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders.
• Experience in smaller organisations or lean teams.
• Experience with real-time data ingestion and IoT data environments.

Responsibilities

• Support, maintain and optimise SQL Server environments
• Work with Technical Architect on platform design, architecture and roadmap initiatives
• Design and enhance data models, database structures and platform architecture
• Improve performance, scalability and reliability across SQL-based systems
• Develop and enhance data ingestion processes and APIs
• Contribute to modernisation of legacy applications and databases
• Support evolution of data lake and analytics capabilities
• Mentor and support junior and mid-level developers
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to deliver data platform improvements
• Help shape the future direction of the company's data estate
