Job summary

Costain seeks an experienced MEICA Estimator to support pre-construction and commercial teams on major water and wastewater projects. This home-based role involves developing robust cost plans and tender submissions from early-stage opportunities through to detailed bids.

You will work with design, procurement and project delivery to ensure competitive, accurate estimates, leveraging Excel and estimating software to deliver high-quality cost plans and confident tender returns.

Qualifications

• Experience as Estimator/Senior Estimator/MEICA Estimator in water/utility sectors.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Experience obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Strong commercial awareness and cost-management knowledge.
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with Excel and estimating software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed MEICA cost estimates for water and wastewater projects.
• Review tender documents, specifications, drawings and design information to establish project requirements.
• Develop detailed labour, plant, materials, subcontract and equipment costs.
• Obtain quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
• Prepare bills of quantities, schedules of rates and cost build-ups.
• Identify scope gaps, risks, assumptions, exclusions and opportunities within tender documentation.
• Liaise with design teams to understand technical requirements and identify value engineering opportunities.
• Work with procurement teams to ensure competitive and robust supply-chain pricing.
• Produce tender submissions and supporting commercial documentation within agreed timescales.
• Undertake benchmarking and maintain knowledge of MEICA rates and market conditions.
• Contribute to cost planning and value engineering across pre-construction.
