Job summary

Williams Lea Group Limited is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing engineering team in a fully remote UK role. You will guide technical delivery, set standards, and collaborate with Product, Design, Security and other stakeholders to align roadmaps with business objectives.

The role requires 8+ years in software engineering with 2+ years of people management, plus hands-on experience in Java, PHP and/or Python, DevOps, and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including delivery of complex systems.
• 2+ years of direct people management experience, including performance and career development.
• Experience leading Agile/Scrum teams and driving continuous improvement.
• Experience with project budgeting, resource planning, and reporting.
• Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and developing in Java, PHP and/or Python.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 5-8 engineers, supporting their career growth through regular 1-on-1s, performance reviews, and development plans.
• Drive all aspects of hiring, including recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding, to build a high-performing and diverse team.
• Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and psychologically safe team culture, managing morale, engagement, and addressing team dynamics.
• Own your team's delivery outcomes, velocity, and operational excellence, ensuring system reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Set technical standards, guide architectural decisions, and ensure code quality through reviews and effective management of technical debt.
• Lead production incident response and post-mortem processes to drive continuous improvement.
