Job summary

Phorest is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Ecommerce team in the Consumer group. You will balance delivering new features with platform reliability, coaching engineers and partnering with Product and Design to shape the customer experience.

You will own team health, performance and growth, drive code quality, testing strategies and observability, and contribute hands-on when needed while guiding scalable distributed systems for the beauty industry.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a leadership role with hands-on people management.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong Java experience and object-oriented design fundamentals.
• Experience leading Agile teams and delivering distributed systems.
• Ability to coach, give feedback and drive growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Ecommerce team within the Consumer domain, ensuring health, productivity and impact.
• Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Product Leads and stakeholders to shape the consumer strategy.
• Balance new features with technical maintenance to preserve platform health.
• Identify bottlenecks, improve processes and promote software delivery best practices.
• Ensure on-time releases meeting quality standards and observable metrics.
• Champion observability and set service level objectives for reliability.
• Establish robust testing strategies and maintain test coverage for new features and existing functionality.
• Be hands-on when needed, review code and guide complex distributed system design.
• Direct people management for a Scrum team: 1-to-1s, feedback, growth planning.
