Job summary

Methods Business and Digital Technology is seeking a Data Architect to lead the programme's technical direction, defining standards and roadmaps for data services across client engagements in the UK.

You will design end-to-end data solutions, mentor engineers, and drive architectural governance while delivering modern data platforms that support analytics, AI workloads, and secure, scalable data access. Role is mostly remote with travel to client sites and London/Sheffield offices.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of Fabric architecture, governance, OneLake, Real-Time Intelligence, Data Engineering, Warehousing and Power BI integration.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders, programme sponsors and project boards.
• Communicate complex decisions to non-technical executives and secure agreement on technical direction.
• Extensive data modelling experience with normalised relational models and star schema/dimensional models.
• Strong SQL skills with SQL Server, PostgreSQL and cloud databases performance tuning.
• Track record with complex data migration projects (terabyte+ datasets, multiple legacy systems).
• Experience with Parquet/Delta Lake and modern data storage formats.
• Experience streaming architectures (Kafka, Event Hubs, or Kinesis).
• Knowledge of data architectures for AI/ML workloads (vector databases, feature stores, MLOps).
• Understanding of Lambda and Kappa patterns; experience with unstructured data support.
• Public sector or defence experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Be the senior technical authority, defining technical direction, priorities, standards and decision-making.
• Create and maintain the Data Transformation Programme roadmap; align workstreams to target architecture.
• Lead architecture reviews and governance forums; establish data platform standards.
• Advocate data standards and govern them across projects and the organisation.
• Design end-to-end data solutions from requirements through implementation with architecture blueprints.
• Lead complex data migrations to cloud-native platforms; manage risk and dependencies.
• Evaluate technologies across the modern data stack to meet client needs.
• Mentor and uplift capability of the team; develop Fabric knowledge in Methods and client teams.
