Job summary

Rutherford Briant in Chelmsford is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to manage a portfolio of clients, primarily remotely with occasional travel to the Chelmsford office. You will handle bookkeeping, VAT returns, and respond to client queries while delivering accurate financial records.

The role offers flexibility, construction sector experience preferred, and the chance to build lasting client relationships while using Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.

Qualifications

• Previous bookkeeping experience, within an accountancy practice.
• Experience working with construction clients would be highly advantageous.
• Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar.

Responsibilities

• Managing bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients, predominantly within the construction sector.
• Processing sales and purchase invoices, bank transactions, reconciliations and journals.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records for clients.
• Preparing VAT returns and supporting clients with their day-to-day accounting requirements.
• Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and provide practical bookkeeping support.
• Assisting with month-end processes and providing information for management accounts and year-end accounts.
