Job summary

Pocknells LLP in Chelmsford, Essex is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper for a full-time, in-person role. You will manage bookkeeping for multiple clients, using Sage, Xero, Hubdoc and Dext, ensuring timely and accurate financial records and compliance with regulations.

Based in Essex with some flexibility and opportunities to work at nearby offices. Salary ranges £25k-£32k DOE, with career development opportunities and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, preferably in an accountancy practice.
• Experience using Sage and Xero (Hubdoc / Dext preferred).
• Knowledge of QuickBooks would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Strong understanding of bookkeeping practices and procedures.
• Ability to manage multiple clients and prioritise tasks effectively.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with VAT returns and payroll processes is advantageous.
• A proactive, flexible attitude with a willingness to help with both bookkeeping and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Manage bookkeeping for multiple clients using Sage, Xero, Hubdoc and Dext.
• Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process.
• Reconcile sales, purchases, and bank accounts.
• Maintain and update fixed asset registers.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Assist in the preparation of management accounts.
• Communicate with clients to gather necessary financial information.
• Support clients with software-related queries (Sage, Xero, Hubdoc, Dext, etc.).
• Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Always maintain client confidentiality and data integrity.
