We currently have a vacancy for a 32-hour part-time registered nurse in Ophthalmology at Furness General Hospital.

We provide comprehensive acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 around Morecambe Bay. As one of the area's largest employers, with approximately 6,000 staff across five sites—Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), Ulverston Community Health Centre, and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe)—we are committed to excellence and diversity.

Main duties of the job

The Ophthalmology department cares for patients of all ages attending various ophthalmic clinics, including Doctor/Nurse led clinics on all sites. You will work in general and specialised clinics, including emergencies, laser treatments, nurse-led assessments, and support day care surgical lists.

You will undergo in-house training in Ophthalmic Nursing care and development, with opportunities to undertake specialised courses in the future.

You will be expected to complete ophthalmic competencies necessary to work effectively in the department.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practices, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various consultant-led services.

WGH provides general hospital services and an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions like minor injuries and illnesses.

All three hospitals provide planned care such as outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day-case, and inpatient surgeries, along with outreach services across Morecambe Bay.
