We currently have a vacancy for a 32-hour part-time registered nurse in Ophthalmology at Furness General Hospital.
We provide a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay. One of the largest employers in the area, we have approximately 6,000 staff working across five sites: Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), Ulverston Community Health Centre, and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe).

The Ophthalmology department cares for patients of all ages attending a wide range of ophthalmic clinics. We have Doctor / Nurse led clinics on all sites. Within this post, you will work in general and specialised Ophthalmology clinics, including emergencies, laser treatment, and nurse-led assessment. This role also supports day care surgical lists.
You will undergo in-house training specialising in Ophthalmic Nursing care and development, with the opportunity in the future to undertake specialised courses.
You will be expected to complete the ophthalmic competencies required to work in the department.
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI offer a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides General Hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and can help with non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three hospitals provide planned care including outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. Additionally, local outreach services and diagnostics are provided across Morecambe Bay.
