Job description

Registered Manager – Children's Residential Home

Location: Leicester, LE4
Salary:Up to £60,000 per annum depending on qualification, registration and probation
Home: 4-bed EBD Children's Home – currently at full occupancy
Ofsted Rating: Good
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an experienced and committed Registered Manager to lead an established 4-bed children's residential home in Leicester (LE4).

The home is currently rated Good by Ofsted and at full occupancy, supporting four teenage girls with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and complex needs.

This is therefore an excellent opportunity for an experienced children's residential professional who is confident managing complex safeguarding risks while maintaining a nurturing, therapeutic and child-centred home.

Applications are welcomed from both existing Registered Managers and experienced Deputy Managers who are ready to take the next step into registration.

Salary Package

The salary structure reflects qualification and registration status:

  • £50,000 per annum if currently completing the relevant management qualification
  • £1,000 salary uplift upon completion of the qualification
  • £55,000 per annum for candidates who are already appropriately qualified
  • A further £5,000 salary uplift upon successful Ofsted registration and completion of probation

This provides potential earnings of up to £60,000 per annum for a qualified candidate following successful registration and probation.

About the Home

Our client aims to provide a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

Care is delivered using a therapeutic, trauma-informed PACE approach, with an emphasis on understanding each young person's individual experiences, needs and behaviours.

The Registered Manager will play a key role in ensuring young people receive high-quality, consistent care while providing strong leadership to the staff team and maintaining the home's existing Good Ofsted standards.

Key Responsibilities

As Registered Manager, you will:

  • Fulfil the responsibilities of the Registered Manager in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and statutory guidance.
  • Ensure the home operates in accordance with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
  • Provide effective leadership, management and guidance to the residential staff team.
  • Maintain a safe, stable and therapeutic environment for all young people.
  • Ensure individual care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding plans are effectively implemented and regularly reviewed.
  • Promote positive outcomes and encourage young people to develop independence appropriate to their age and individual abilities.
  • Develop positive relationships with young people and ensure their wishes, feelings and individual needs remain central to the running of the home.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers, social workers, education providers and other professionals.
  • Ensure young people's cultural, religious, dietary and individual needs are understood and respected.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day deployment and management of staff.
  • Lead on staff recruitment, induction, supervision, development, training, performance and retention.
  • Maintain effective communication systems, including handovers, records, supervision and regular staff meetings.
  • Ensure the team understands and follows organisational policies, procedures and safeguarding expectations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and best practice within children's residential care and ensure this is embedded across the staff team.
  • Manage the home's physical, financial and human resources effectively.
  • Ensure the home, grounds and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
  • Support continuous service development and maintain readiness for Ofsted inspection.
  • Participate in the organisation's on-call system.
About You

Our client is particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong leadership alongside a genuine commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.

You may already be an established Registered Manager, or you could be an experienced Deputy Manager ready to progress into your first Registered Manager position.

You should have:

  • Significant experience within children's residential care
  • Strong leadership or management experience within a children's home
  • Experience supporting children and young people with EBD and complex needs
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and risk management
  • Knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
  • The ability to lead, motivate and develop a residential staff team
  • Confidence working collaboratively with Ofsted, Local Authorities, families and other professionals
  • A therapeutic, trauma-informed and genuinely child-centred approach
  • The relevant Level 5 management qualification, or be working towards the appropriate qualification
  • The ability and willingness to undertake the Ofsted registration process where not already registered
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to take leadership of an established, fully occupied children's home that already holds a Good Ofsted rating, rather than starting a service from scratch.

For an experienced Deputy Manager, it also offers a clear route into your first Registered Manager position, with a structured salary increase following qualification, successful registration and probation.

Our client is committed to creating a warm, nurturing environment where young people receive consistent, high-quality care and where staff feel supported and valued.

This position is subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check and all relevant safer recruitment checks.

The responsibilities above provide an overview of the position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties.
