Job description

Registered Manager – Children's Residential Home

Location: Westhoughton, Greater Manchester (Bolton area)
Salary: From £50,000 per annum – flexibility for the right candidate
Hours: 40 hours per week
Service: New 2-bed EBD Children's Residential Home

The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Registered Manager to lead a brand-new 2-bed children’s residential home in Westhoughton, Greater Manchester.

This is an exciting opportunity to take responsibility for a new service from its early stages, playing a key role in the registration and opening of the home, building and developing a new staff team and establishing a positive culture from day one.

Our client is an established and growing children's residential care provider with a strong track record across its existing services. The organisation places a significant emphasis on achieving positive outcomes for children and young people, maintaining stable homes and developing strong, consistent leadership teams.

This position would particularly suit an experienced Registered Manager who enjoys the challenge of developing a new service and wants to work for an organisation where senior leadership remains actively involved in the day-to-day quality and development of its homes.

About the Home

The service will be a new 2-bed EBD children's residential home based in Westhoughton, near Bolton.

As Registered Manager, you will have the opportunity to shape the service, establish its culture and develop a strong team around the needs of the children and young people placed within the home.

Our client recognises that building a successful new home and staff team takes time and is looking for a manager who can provide the experience, consistency and leadership required to develop a stable service with excellent standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

As Registered Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the effective management and development of the home, including:

  • Leading the registration, mobilisation and development of the new service
  • Taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of the children's home
  • Recruiting, developing and leading a brand-new staff team
  • Establishing a positive, child-centred culture within the home
  • Ensuring children and young people receive high-quality, individualised care and support
  • Maintaining compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
  • Ensuring the service remains fully prepared for Ofsted inspections
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and child protection
  • Providing effective supervision, leadership and performance management to the staff team
  • Ensuring appropriate care planning, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures are maintained
  • Working effectively with local authorities, social workers, families and other professionals
  • Monitoring the quality of care and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Ensuring effective staffing, rotas and operational oversight
  • Working closely with the Responsible Individual and wider senior leadership team
  • Promoting stability, consistency and positive long-term outcomes for the children and young people within the service
About You

Our client is specifically looking for an experienced Registered Manager rather than a Deputy Manager looking to take their first Registered Manager position.

Applicants should ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Registered Manager within children's residential care
  • Experience of opening, registering or mobilising a new children's residential home
  • Experience of building, managing and developing a new staff team
  • Strong experience supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) and complex needs
  • A strong working knowledge of Ofsted, Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
  • Excellent safeguarding knowledge
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills
  • The ability to establish and maintain high standards within a new service
  • Experience working effectively with local authorities and external professionals
  • A Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification, or be actively working towards this
  • A full UK driving licence

Due to the nature of this particular vacancy, applications from Deputy Managers looking to step up into their first Registered Manager position cannot be considered on this occasion.

Salary & Benefits

The starting salary is £50,000 per annum, with some flexibility available for the right experienced candidate.

Additional benefits and incentives include:

  • Ofsted performance bonus for achieving Good/Outstanding outcomes
  • £50 birthday gift
  • Length-of-service bonuses:
    • £100 after 1 year's service
    • £200 after 2 years' service
    • £300 after 3 years' service
  • Ongoing support from an experienced senior leadership team
  • Regular quality audits and operational support
  • Regular manager meetings and supervision
  • Opportunity to join a growing children's residential care organisation
  • Scope to make a genuine impact on the development of a brand-new service
About Our Client

Our client is a growing children's residential care provider that has developed from operating two homes to a portfolio of established services, with further homes currently being opened.

Their existing homes have achieved Good Ofsted outcomes, and the organisation places significant importance on maintaining these standards through regular audits, strong management oversight and hands‑on support from senior leadership.

Their approach is centred around more than simply operating children's homes – they are passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people.

They are therefore looking for a Registered Manager who shares these values and who is motivated by creating a stable, nurturing and well‑led home where young people can achieve positive outcomes.

Recruitment Process

Our client operates a thorough safer recruitment process.

Suitable candidates will initially be considered based on their CV and experience. Those selected to progress will have an initial conversation with the client, followed by completion of a full application form prior to formal interview.

Relevant employment checks, references and explanations for any gaps in employment history will also form part of the recruitment process.
