Job summary

Everyone Active – Abbey Leisure Centre is recruiting an Apprentice Recreation Assistant to join our team and help deliver high-quality service to members and visitors. The role supports poolside supervision, fitness class delivery, and general centre operations, with the National Pool Lifeguard qualification gained during the course.

You must be able to swim competently; swimming teacher and fitness qualifications may be earned through the programme.

Qualifications

• National Pool Lifeguard qualification will be gained during the course.
• You must be able to swim to a competent level.
• An enhanced DBS check is required before start.

Responsibilities

• Supervise poolside activities and ensure customer safety.
• Assist in the setup and delivery of fitness classes and group activity sessions.
• Provide excellent customer service to all members and visitors.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational standards across facilities.
• Support the reception and administration teams when required.

We need an Apprentice Recreation Assistant who will…

• Want to learn to be an effective communicator with other team members

• Ensure equipment setups are completed safely and on time

National Pool Lifeguard qualification will be gained during the course, so you’ll need to be able to swim to a competent level. You’ll also achieve a swimming teacher and fitness qualification. This position will involve day, evening and weekend work, including public holidays and requires an enhanced DBS check which we will complete before you start.

If invited to interview, you’ll need to complete a swim test and demonstrate the following:

• Jump or dive into deep water
• Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
• Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water, then tread water for 30 seconds

You will work as part of a team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the leisure centre. Supervise poolside activities and always ensure customer safety. Maintain cleanliness and operational standards across all facilities and support the reception and administration teams when required
