Job summary

BH Live's Mountbatten Leisure Centre in Portsmouth is seeking a Senior Recreation Assistant to support the Customer Operations Manager. You will supervise Recreation Assistants, monitor pool activities for safety, and ensure smooth centre operations.

Responsibilities include staffing, safety enforcement, equipment handling, first aid, and regular training to maintain NPLQ lifeguard and First Aid qualifications. This role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Experience in sports and recreation environments.
• Face-to-face customer interaction experience.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Recreation Assistants, ensuring adequate staffing and rotation.
• Monitor the public during activities, enforcing safety and rules.
• Clean the centre and its equipment.
• Set up, move, and dismantle equipment.
• Maintain lifeguard and first aid qualifications with regular training.
• Conduct pool water tests and report irregularities.
• Administer first aid as required.
• Follow operating procedures and emergency actions.

Senior Recreation Assistant

Location: Mountbatten Leisure Centre, Portsmouth

This role will assist the Customer Operations Manager in the supervision and control of our Recreation Assistants to ensure customers are kept safe when using our swimming pools.

You will:

• Supervise Recreation Assistants, ensuring adequate staffing levels and appropriate rotation.
• Supervise the public during their participation in the Centre's programme, ensuring safety and compliance with rules.
• Clean the centre and its equipment.
• Erect, dismantle, and move equipment.
• Maintain RLSS NPLQ Lifeguard Certificate and a current recognised First Aid Certificate through regular training.
• Carry out pool water tests and report irregularities.
• Administer First Aid and Resuscitation as required.
• Be fully aware of the Centre’s Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Procedures.

You will need:

• Experience within the Sports and Recreation Industry.
• Experience dealing with customers face to face.
• Remain calm and level headed under pressure.
• Be a team player with a positive attitude.
• Work unsocial hours including evenings, bank holidays, and weekends.
• Hold a First Aid at Work Qualification.
• Hold a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).

Hours of work will include weekends, bank holidays, and evenings.
