Job summary

Connect Plus Services is seeking a Recovery Operative to support the M25 in Dartford. You will respond to incidents, recover vehicles, clear hazards, and maintain accurate reports while ensuring safety and compliance across the network.

The role involves shift work (days, nights, weekends) and travel between depots, with opportunities to develop essential competencies and contribute to sustainable, zero-harm objectives.

Qualifications

• UK Driving Licence required with Category C+E (LGV Class 1).
• IVR Levels 1, 2 and 3 certification essential.
• Driver Qualification Card (CPC) required.
• CSCS Operative Card holders preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to road traffic incidents and provide recovery support at scene.
• Safely recover light and heavy vehicles using advised equipment.
• Clear incidents quickly to minimise disruption and maintain traffic flow.
• Complete reports and data entry via mobile devices.
• Carry out vehicle and equipment inspections and maintain safety standards.
• Report defects and replenish stock for recovery equipment.
• Participate in Winter Service rota and attend required training.

Job description

CPS/ Balfour Beatty currently has an opportunity for a Recovery Operative to work on the M25, one of the busiest and most important road networks in the UK.

As part of the Connect Plus Services business based in Dartford, you will be responsible for supporting the efficient delivery of the M25 DBFO Network by undertaking a wide range of incident response, vehicle recovery, hazard clearance and network support activities.

Working Arrangements

• Expected to work shifts (days, nights, weekends and bank holidays) to meet operational requirements.
• Shift pattern is 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off, including weekends and bank holidays.
• Reasonable travel across the M25 network and between depots.
• Travel to meetings, training events and work sites outside the normal operational area when required.
• Expected to participate in out-of-hours working to support Winter Maintenance activities.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Respond to road traffic incidents, hazards and collisions, providing expert recovery support and advice at the scene.
• Safely recover light and heavy vehicles in accordance with CPS policies, procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
• Help clear incidents quickly and efficiently to minimise disruption and keep the network moving.
• Complete accurate reports, records and data entry using mobile communication devices.
• Carry out routine vehicle and equipment inspections, ensuring compliance with legislation and CPS procedures.
• Maintain up-to-date driving records and ensure all equipment is safe, serviceable and ready for use.
• Identify and report issues that may affect the safe operation of the road network.
• Take responsibility for CPS assets, including recovery vehicles, tablets, radios and specialist equipment.
• Report defects, replenish stock and maintain recovery equipment to required operational standards.
• Participate in the Winter Service rota as required.
• Attend training courses and maintain relevant competencies.
• Demonstrate and promote the Balfour Beatty Values.
• Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
• Support the delivery of CSUK sustainability activities.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

• UK Driving Licence, minimum Category C+E (LGV Class 1).
• IVR Levels 1, 2 and 3.
• Driver Qualification Card (CPC).
• CSCS Operative Card.

Experience

• Experience recovering heavy and light vehicles on a live motorway or All-Purpose Trunk Road (APTR) network.
• Proficient in safe recovery practices for both heavy and light vehicles, using the full range of recovery equipment, including underlifts, winches and cranes.
• Previous experience in a traffic management, transport, highways or vehicle recovery environment is preferred.
• Successfully pass the Security Check as part of the recruitment process.
• Successfully pass the annual driving licence check.
• Successfully pass pre-employment Drug & Alcohol testing and any subsequent testing as required.
• Successfully pass the Company’s health screening programme.
