Job summary

Catchwork in Carlisle is seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism. You will work closely with the class teacher to support learning and wellbeing, building trust, consistency, and a calm, encouraging presence throughout the school day.

Ideal candidates hold a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or education/care background, with SEND experience and a passion for helping young learners thrive in a supportive, caring environment.

Qualifications

• A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or a background in education or care (NVQ, CACHE, Degree, or equivalent).
• Experience supporting children with SEND.
• Passionate working with young children or adults with disabilities.

A welcoming primary school is seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child who has Autism This role is about building trust, offering consistency, and helping the pupil feel safe and ready to learn. You will be working at a KS2 level with guidance from the Teacher. This role is to start ASAP

The Role You will work closely with the class teacher to support both learning and wellbeing, using patience, empathy, and creativity to nurture confidence and resilience. The focus will be on emotional regulation, encouragement, and gentle guidance through daily routines.

The Ideal Person

Applicants should hold a relevant degree or a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification. Experience with trauma-informed approaches is highly beneficial. What matters most is your ability to connect with children, remain calm under pressure, and bring a caring, reliable presence.
