Job summary

Akkodis is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to work on complex, real‑world systems within a highly regulated and technology‑driven environment. You will join a collaborative engineering team, delivering embedded software for mission‑critical defence, security and advanced engineering projects.

Day‑to‑day you will develop real‑time C++ software, design robust architectures, and integrate with hardware platforms.

Qualifications

• Real-time embedded systems experience.
• Exposure to RTOS environments such as VxWorks, SafeRTOS or Embedded Linux.
• Experience working within Agile software development teams.
• Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns and full lifecycle development.
• Experience developing software for resource-constrained hardware platforms.
• Knowledge of embedded interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO or CANbus.
• Experience with software integration, testing and debugging on target hardware.
• Familiarity with static code analysis tools and software configuration management practices.
• Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
• A proactive, self-motivated approach with ownership and delivery focus.
• Experience leading technical decisions within a development team.

Responsibilities

• Develop real-time embedded software in C++.
• Work across the full software development lifecycle from requirements through to integration and release.
• Design software architectures and translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Collaborate closely with software, hardware and systems engineering teams.
• Integrate software with hardware platforms and support board bring-up activities.
• Perform software testing, debugging and troubleshooting in simulated and real hardware environments.
• Review code and technical documentation to ensure high-quality standards.
• Support Agile development activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Integrate third-party and internally developed software components into larger systems.
• Produce clear technical documentation and release artefacts.
