Job summary

Akkodis is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to work on complex, real‑world systems within a highly regulated and technology‑driven environment. You will join a collaborative engineering team, delivering embedded software for mission‑critical defence, security and advanced engineering projects.

Day‑to‑day you will develop real‑time C++ software, design robust architectures, and integrate with hardware platforms.

Qualifications

• Real-time embedded systems experience.
• Exposure to RTOS environments such as VxWorks, SafeRTOS or Embedded Linux.
• Experience working within Agile software development teams.
• Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns and full lifecycle development.
• Experience developing software for resource-constrained hardware platforms.
• Knowledge of embedded interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO or CANbus.
• Experience with software integration, testing and debugging on target hardware.
• Familiarity with static code analysis tools and software configuration management practices.
• Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
• A proactive, self-motivated approach with ownership and delivery focus.
• Experience leading technical decisions within a development team.

Responsibilities

Are you an experienced Embedded Software Engineer looking to work on complex, real-world systems within a highly regulated and technology-driven environment?

We're supporting a leading organisation within the defence, security and advanced engineering sector, developing mission-critical solutions where reliability, performance and quality are essential. You'll join a collaborative engineering team, working closely with hardware, systems and software specialists to deliver innovative embedded solutions.

Hybrid Working: 2-3 days per week on-site

What you'll be doing

• Developing and maintaining real-time embedded software in C++
• Working across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements through to integration and release
• Designing software architectures and translating requirements into robust technical solutions
• Collaborating closely with software, hardware and systems engineering teams
• Integrating software with hardware platforms and supporting board/device bring-up activities
• Performing software testing, debugging and troubleshooting in simulated and real hardware environments
• Reviewing code and technical documentation to ensure high-quality standards
• Supporting Agile development activities and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
• Integrating third-party and internally developed software components into larger systems
• Producing clear technical documentation and release artefacts

What we're looking for

• Experience with real-time embedded systems
