Job summary

Alten is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in London to design, develop, and maintain mission-critical embedded C++ software for real-time systems in high-integrity environments. You will ensure robustness, determinism, and safety, and contribute to V&V activities while collaborating with systems, electronics and test engineers.

Role requires 8+ years’ experience, eligibility for UK SC clearance, and a track record in regulated or safety-critical domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Software Engineering or related field; eligible for UK SC clearance.
• Experience in defence/safety-critical or regulated environments is essential.
• Strong understanding of real-time constraints and deterministic behaviour.
• Experience with verification, validation and requirements traceability.
• Familiarity with automated testing, static analysis, or CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded C++ software for real-time, mission-critical systems.
• Contribute to development within safety-regulated environments following high-integrity software practices.
• Develop and integrate low-level software components and system interfaces.
• Support unit, integration, and system-level testing to ensure deterministic and reliable behaviour.
• Collaborate with systems, electronics, and test engineers to integrate software into complex platforms.
• Produce clear and traceable technical documentation suitable for regulated environments.
