Job summary

Smile Education Recruitment is looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a high-achieving specialist secondary school in Birmingham on a maternity cover basis, starting mid-November. The role involves in-class support, reading and maths interventions, and pastoral responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have TA experience in a secondary setting, with literacy/reading intervention experience and the ability to manage groups up to 25 students, while building strong relationships

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Teaching Assistant in a secondary school or similar educational setting.
• Experience delivering or supporting literacy/reading interventions.
• Ability to work with larger intervention groups (up to 25 students).
• Strong Maths skills and ability to deliver targeted Maths interventions.
• Experience providing effective in-class support.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-class support to students, assisting teachers to access the curriculum and progress.
• Supervise structured reading interventions for groups up to 25 students.
• Deliver targeted Maths interventions to address gaps in knowledge.
• Act as a keyworker for a designated group, providing academic and pastoral support.
• Support students with organisation, motivation and engagement in learning.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and pastoral colleagues to identify barriers to learning.
