Job summary

Disability North is seeking a compassionate care assistant in Rowlands Gill to support a teenager with autism and intellectual disability at home. You will provide personal care, assist with meals, and help run engaging activities in a safe, supportive environment.

The role requires weekend coverage (Friday evening, Saturday/Sunday afternoon) and willingness to travel locally when needed. Experience in autism-related care and awareness of sensory needs are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience caring for individuals with autism and intellectual disability.
• Awareness of sensory processing challenges and needs.
• Ability to engage with a teen in home activities and routines.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care and assist with toileting as required.
• Prepare simple meals and encourage adequate intake.
• Engage in home/garden activities (art, toys, reading, Lego) with the teen.
• Occasionally assist parent to access the local community.
• Ensure safety and well-being during care shifts.

Rate: £16.00 per hour

Area: Rowlands Gill, Gateshead

To support a teenager with autism and a intellectual disability with personal care, having a meal and engaging with activities within the home

Responsibilities/duties:

• Personal care and toileting as required
• Preparing a simple meal and encouraging oral intake
• Engaging with activities within the home/garden such as art, playing with toys, reading books, Lego etc. Occasionally assisting
• Occasionally assisting with parent to access the local community

We are looking for:

• Someone caring and trustworthy
• Someone with care experience, particularly supporting people with autism, challenging behaviour and have an awareness of sensory issues
• A car driver is desirable but not essential
