Job summary

Octane Recruitment Ltd seeks a Roadside Technician (field-based) joining a national breakdown company with 15+ million members. You’ll attend roadside breakdowns, diagnose faults and perform on-the-spot repairs to keep members mobile.

This permanent role offers strong salary with overtime, pension, life cover and industry training. A valid UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK are required.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair (or Level 3 preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on vehicle experience.
• Full UK driving licence with up to 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical roadside repairs (battery changes, wheel changes, minor engine fixes).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn’t possible to keep members mobile.
• Advise members on next steps including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

Job description

Roadside Technician (field-based) providing roadside assistance for a national breakdown company with over 15 million members. Great salary, benefits, overtime and bonus opportunities.

Location: Peterborough

Pay / salary: £36,400 OTE: OTE: In Excess of £60,000, opportunity to earn 70-80k+

Job type: Permanent / full-time role

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

Job Responsibilities for the Roadside Technician role

What you’ll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification hands‑on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.
• A customer‑focused approach.
• Must have a full UK driving licence – max 6 points, no bans.
