Job summary

Cygnet Appletree near Durham is hiring a confident Support Worker to join a dedicated care team. You will help people in our mental health facility with daily living, welfare, and emotional support, working 42 hours per week on 12-hour shifts, including day and night duties.

Starting pay is £13.15 per hour, rising after probation and again after 18 months, with full-time annual earnings around £29k–£32k. The role offers learning opportunities, flexible overtime, and benefits.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in care or support roles is desirable.
• Ability to work in a busy, 24/7 environment with sensitive individuals.
• Strong communication and observation skills.

Responsibilities

• Support management and team in day-to-day running of the service.
• Ensure duties are allocated effectively and safely.
• Offer enhanced care with a flexible learning approach.
• Provide guidance and encouragement through physical and emotional support.
• Learn about individuals’ needs and provide help in the most appropriate way.

Cygnet Appletree, near Durham, is a mental health hospital for women that includes Pippin Ward, a specialist PICU service and Bramley Ward, an intensive support service for women with a personality disorder and complex mental health needs.

Our person-centred service has been designed with wellness in mind, providing a safe and comfortable environment that promotes efficient rehabilitation and recovery. We are dedicated to understand, stabilise and break the traumatic cycles of relapse that can impact service users’ lives.
