Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a Shift Technician at Mogden STW to operate and monitor treatment processes, ensuring safety and compliance. You will work a 12-hour rotating shift pattern, support the wider operations team, and contribute to improvement initiatives across the site.

Ideal candidates will have strong health and safety awareness, good communication, and a full driving licence, with experience in wastewater or similar mechanical/electrical environments preferred.

  • Escalate operational, maintenance, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Carry out safety observations and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Contribute to daily operational meetings and site updates.
  • Support improvement initiatives and compliance activities across the site.
  • Assist with delivery of capital projects within your area.

As a Shift Technician, you’ll play a key role in keeping essential treatment processes running safely and efficiently around the clock, helping protect the environment and deliver for our customers.

What you’ll be doing as a Shift Technician?

  • Operating treatment processes in line with environmental permits and site operating standards
  • Monitoring asset performance and making adjustments to optimise efficiency and compliance
  • Working closely with Process Controllers and the wider operations team to support site performance
  • Escalating operational, maintenance, or safety concerns promptly to ensure full visibility
  • Carrying out safety observations and actively promoting a strong health and safety culture
  • Contributing to daily operational meetings and site updates
  • Supporting improvement initiatives and compliance activities across the site
  • Assisting with the delivery of capital projects within your operational area
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and site safety at all times

Working Pattern: 12-hour shifts, days and nights on a rotating 6 weekly Panama shift pattern.

Necessary Requirements for the role: Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends

The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role is:

  • Confidence working independently and making decisions within an operational setting
  • Strong awareness of health and safety practices and procedures
  • Good communication skills to work effectively with site teams
  • Full driving licence

Additional skills and experiences would be great to have:

  • Experience working within wastewater treatment or a similar mechanical or electrical environment
  • Experience working on sludge or digestion treatment processes
  • Ability to monitor, interpret and respond to process and performance data
  • Knowledge or experience of control systems such as SCADA
  • Familiarity with operational compliance requirements in a regulated environment
  • Experience supporting operational improvements or site-based projects
