Job summary

Ceredigion County Council Direct Payment Support Service is seeking a PA to support a 15-year-old service user who is wheelchair reliant and has a rare condition similar to autism. The role involves personal care, social engagement, and assisting with activities such as swimming, with PPE supplied for incontinence care.

Hours are 12 hours per 4-week period by arrangement, including after-school and weekend shifts. The position is based in Bow Street Aberystwyth and pays £14.50 per hour.

Qualifications

• Experience with caring for young people with disabilities is preferable.
• Understanding of autism would be beneficial.
• Willingness to provide personal care if required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the family to facilitate activities such as swimming or horse-riding.
• Engage the service user socially at a suitable level.
• Provide personal care if on duty as required.
• Prepare light snacks and ensure hydration.
• Keep the client safe at all times during duty.
• Carry out other reasonable requests from the employer.

Introduction

PA required to look after a happy and adventurous 15-year-old disabled young person, the service user is mainly wheelchair reliant and has a rare condition similar to autism, and an understanding of autism would be beneficial, he is nonverbal but once engaged is a delight to care for.

Personal care is involved due to incontinence for which he uses pads. For which full PPE is supplied.

Main Duties

• Work alongside and assist the family to complete activities such as swimming/horse-riding or other stimulating activities as they arise.
• Provide a level of social stimulation engaging with the service user at a level he can enjoy.
• Provide personal care if required on duty
• Prepare light snacks on duty and ensure client is kept hydrated.
• Ensure the safety of the client at all times whilst on duty
• To carry out any other reasonable requests that the employer may make from time to time.
