Ceredigion County Council Direct Payment Support Service in Aberystwyth is seeking a reliable, patient individual to provide companionship and home support to a lady who uses an electric wheelchair and oxygen. The role requires calm, unobtrusive assistance while ensuring safety and wellbeing, especially when her husband is away.

The position offers 8 hours per week with flexible respite hours over 24 hours when needed, at a competitive rate, based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly companionship and reassurance in the lady's home.
• Remain attentive to her comfort, safety and general wellbeing while she rests or sleeps.
• Support her to use her electric wheelchair or mobility scooter safely, where required and in line with agreed guidance.
• Be mindful of her oxygen dependence and follow the family’s agreed instructions and emergency arrangements.
• Provide regular weekly support and additional respite support for periods of up to 24 hours, as agreed in advance.
• Communicate clearly with the lady and her husband about her needs and any concerns.
• Respect privacy, dignity, personal choice and confidentiality at all times.

Rate of Pay: £15.00 per hour

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, patient and friendly person to provide companionship and support to a lady in her own home. She uses an electric wheelchair and mobility scooter and is dependent on oxygen. She enjoys resting and sleeping, so the successful applicant must be comfortable providing calm, unobtrusive support while remaining attentive to her safety and wellbeing.

The main purpose of the role is to provide safe and reassuring company when the lady’s husband is away. This will help him take part in activities that are important to him, including a full day of fishing, an evening visit to the rifle range, courses connected with his voluntary work, and his involvement in running a veterans’ group.
