Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a leading radiotherapy centre seeking an experienced Medical Physics Expert to lead the radiotherapy computing group. The role concentrates on scientific computing, scripting, and software lifecycle governance to support SMR quality and safety in cancer care.

You will provide clinical, scientific and technical guidance across departments, work with Trust IT and Clinical Safety, and mentor junior staff across Newcastle and Carlisle sites.

Qualifications

• First- or second-class honours degree in physics or equivalent.
• Post‑graduate degree (MSc/PhD) or equivalent level of specialist knowledge.
• Registered Clinical Scientist
• Recognised by the Secretary of State as a Medical Physics Expert.

Responsibilities

• Lead the radiotherapy physics scientific computing team, ensuring high‑quality computing service delivery.
• Develop and maintain the software lifecycle, manage in‑house software changes and mentor staff.
• Provide scientific and technical advice to clinical, scientific, and managerial colleagues across sites.
• Collaborate with Trust IT, IG and Clinical Safety to deliver a high‑standard computing service.
• Lead/mentor a CSC trainee and supervise cross‑disciplinary research and development projects.
