Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Radiotherapy Engineer to join the Radiotherapy Engineering Group. The role focuses on electromechanical maintenance of radiotherapy equipment to ensure treatments run smoothly, with training provided for Varian Linear Accelerators.

The successful candidate will operate primarily at the Freeman Hospital, with duties across multiple sites as required, and work toward professional registration in the RCT or AHCS frameworks.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate knowledge of engineering gained through experience.
• Good knowledge of IT software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
• Specialist knowledge in medical or scientific equipment.
• Knowledge of safe moving and handling techniques and infection control.

Responsibilities

• Performs specialist healthcare science activities in radiotherapy.
• Assists in delivering technical aspects of the radiotherapy service.
• Maintains high standards of service and reduces downtime.
• Applies fault diagnosis and IT skills to minimise downtime.
• Supports roster covering a 7-day working week.
