Job summary

A nuclear-focused recruitment agency in Cumbria is seeking a Radiation Protection Physicist for a permanent role. The successful candidate will conduct radiological safety assessments, assess radiation damage risk, and develop radiation detection systems. Essential qualifications include a degree in a relevant field and demonstrable experience in radiation physics or nuclear safety. Job description
Overview

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Radiation Protection Physicist on a permanent basis in Cumbria. Hybrid working will be supported; this will be 3-4 days a week onsite.

What you'll be doing
  • Conducting radiological safety assessments
  • Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics
  • Developing and deploying radiation detection systems
  • Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system
  • Running and analysing point kernel and Monte-Carlo calculations
  • Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the whole boat
  • Developing ALARP justifications in support of design decisions
Qualifications
  • Essential: Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field
  • Essential: Demonstrable knowledge/experience of radiation physics, nuclear engineering, nuclear safety or similar
  • Essential: Knowledge/experience of radiological safety assessments, ALARP justifications or similar
  • Essential: Knowledge/experience of radiation transport methods (ATTILLA/MCBEND/MCNP etc.)
