Job summary

Pure Resourcing Solutions Limited is seeking a Lead Development Engineer for a Defence R&D unit in Norfolk, on-site. The role leads electro-mechanical engineers and technicians, delivering capabilities three to five years ahead of live programmes, with room to balance hands-on work and leadership.

Defence experience is not required; strong understanding of complex development projects and regulatory concepts is essential.

Qualifications

Degree in mechanical, mechatronics, electrical/electronic, or systems engineering.
Broad electro-mechanical background and integration experience.
Experience leading electro-mechanical design from concept to prototype.
Hands-on hardware experience in lab or field trials.
Background with complex, regulated products (defence/aerospace/automotive).
Full UK driving licence and passport.
Eligibility for SC clearance (not required to hold).
Nice to have MIL-STD/DEF-STAN, environmental qualification, EMC, IEng/CEng.

Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day running of the department with project management collaboration.
Line-manage electro-mechanical engineers and technicians: priorities and development.
Oversee design approaches, interfaces and design trade-offs; hands-on as needed.
Lead integration across mechanisms, electronics, sensors, actuators and controls.
Lead prototype builds, bring-up, fault-finding and support trials/demos.
Define verification and validation strategies before testing starts.
Maintain awareness of software impact on integration and outcomes.
Handover mature designs to production and capture lessons for R&D.
Introduce appropriate structure to reviews, planning and configuration control.
