Job summary

JHR Recruitment is seeking a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator in Exeter to manage both estimating and surveying tasks across a varied portfolio. You’ll work on projects ranging from £100k to £5m, including defence, healthcare, commercial and public sector works.

You will report to the Regional Director and cover tender through to delivery, with an initial office-based role and hybrid options once settled. The role rewards a strong commercial focus and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Experience as Quantity Surveyor or Estimator, ideally with a main contractor.
• Experience on small works projects across various sectors.
• Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tenders and estimates for projects from £100k to £5m.
• Source and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Manage project costs, valuations, and subcontractor payments.
• Prepare cost reports, forecasts and final accounts.
• Manage variations and change control.

Quantity Surveyor / Estimator | Exeter | £60k-£70k + Car Allowance

Location: Exeter (office based, with hybrid working available once settled in the role)

Salary: £60,000-£70,000 per annum + car allowance + benefits

The Company

An established building services and construction business is looking for a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to join its Exeter office. You'll work alongside an established team on a varied portfolio of small works projects, with a strong pipeline of work across the South West.

The Role

Reporting into the Regional Director, you will cover both estimating and quantity surveying on projects ranging from £100k to £5m. The portfolio spans defence, commercial, healthcare, and public sector schemes, covering new build, refurbishment, and fit out. This is a varied role for someone who enjoys working across sectors and being involved from tender through to delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing tenders and estimates for small works projects from £100k to £5m
• Sourcing and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations
• Managing project costs, valuations, and subcontractor payments
• Preparing cost reports, forecasts, and final accounts
• Managing variations and change control
• Working closely with the wider team to deliver projects on budget and to programme
• Building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers

About You

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator, ideally with a main contractor or similar
• Experience on small works projects across new build, refurbishment, and fit out
• Experience in defence, healthcare, commercial, or public sector work is an advantage
• Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
• Confident working independently and as part of an established team
• Full UK driving licence

Working Pattern

The role will initially be office based five days a week, with the option of hybrid working once you are settled in the role.
