Job summary

O'Neill & Brennan in North Devon is seeking an experienced Estimator/Surveyor to join their established construction team. You will price tenders and support financial management from pre-construction through to completion.

The role covers a varied portfolio across healthcare, education, commercial, residential and housebuilding with project values from £50k to £6m. A full UK driving licence is required and a permanent, full-time position offers a company car and bonus opportunities.

Estimator / Quantity Surveyor

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estimator / Surveyor to join an established and highly regarded construction business based in North Devon.

The company undertakes a varied portfolio of construction and refurbishment projects across the region, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to work across a broad range of sectors, including healthcare, education, commercial, residential and housebuilding.

Projects range in value from approximately £50,000 through to £6 million, providing plenty of variety and the opportunity to become involved in both smaller works and larger, more complex schemes.

This is a permanent position suited to an experienced commercial all-rounder who is comfortable working across both the pre-construction and commercial stages of projects.

The Role

Working as part of an established commercial team, you will have responsibility for accurately pricing work at tender stage and subsequently supporting the financial management of projects through to completion.

Your duties will include:

• Preparing detailed estimates, quotations and project budgets.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Carrying out quantity take-offs and assessing labour, materials and subcontract requirements.
• Obtaining and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Assisting with tender submissions and contributing to the overall bidding process.
• Identifying potential commercial risks, opportunities and areas for value engineering.
• Supporting the commercial management of projects once secured.
• Preparing valuations, cost reports and forecasts.
• Monitoring project expenditure against agreed budgets.
• Managing variations and changes to scope.
• Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Attending site meetings and carrying out site visits where required.
• Assisting with subcontractor procurement and final accounts.
• Maintaining accurate commercial records and ensuring projects remain financially controlled.

About You

You should be commercially aware, numerate and confident interpreting construction drawings and specifications. Just as importantly, you will be someone who can communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and colleagues and who is capable of managing your own workload to meet tender and project deadlines.

Experience of working on a variety of building projects would be advantageous, particularly within commercial, education, healthcare, residential or housebuilding environments.
