Job summary

Aldwych Consulting in the North East is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join its Cost & Commercial team in a hybrid role. You will work on a varied portfolio of projects across education, commercial, defence, industrial and retail, delivering pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying services.

You will estimate, monitor and control project costs, review contractor payments, and produce regular financial reports while developing your career in a supportive consultancy environment.

Qualifications

• MRICS qualified or working towards chartership.
• Experience across pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying.
• Good knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
• Understanding of NRM and measurement methods.
• Strong commercial and cost management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Delivering pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying services.
• Working closely with clients, project managers, contractors and internal teams.
• Estimating, monitoring and controlling project costs to ensure delivery within budget.
• Reviewing and managing contractor and supplier costs and payments.
• Preparing regular financial reports and updates on project performance and commercial risk.
• Supporting procurement activities, including contractor evaluation and appointment.
• Administering JCT and NEC contracts.
• Managing variations and changes, including reviewing quotations and submissions.
• Maintaining accurate commercial and project records.
• Identifying and managing commercial risks throughout the lifecycle.
• Supporting value engineering and value management.

The Opportunity

A leading construction and property consultancy is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its growing Cost & Commercial team in the North East. This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career within a supportive and collaborative consultancy, working on a varied portfolio of projects across the North East and wider UK. Projects span a range of sectors including education, commercial, defence, industrial and retail, giving you the opportunity to broaden your experience and work alongside experienced project and commercial professionals.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved across the full project lifecycle, providing commercial and cost management support from pre-contract through to completion. Key responsibilities will include:

• Delivering pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying services.
• Working closely with clients, project managers, contractors and internal teams.
• Estimating, monitoring and controlling project costs to ensure delivery within budget.
• Reviewing and managing contractor and supplier costs and payments.
• Preparing regular financial reports and providing updates on project performance and commercial risk.
• Supporting procurement activities, including contractor evaluation and appointment.

• Managing variations and change, including reviewing quotations, assessing validity and agreeing submissions.
• Maintaining accurate commercial and project records.
• Identifying and managing commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Supporting value engineering and value management exercises.
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.

The Person

We're looking for a personable, ambitious and commercially focused Quantity Surveyor who is keen to develop within a leading consultancy environment. Ideally, you will have:

• A BSc in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
• MRICS qualified or working towards chartership.
• Experience across both pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying.
• Good knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
• Understanding of NRM and methods of measurement.
• Strong commercial and cost management skills.
• Good communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• A proactive and collaborative approach to project delivery.
• The ambition to develop your technical and commercial expertise.
