Role Description
Job PurposeTo report to the Quality Manager, ensuring that the Quality Department and Syrup Room requirements are met along with the smooth running of the production facility and site facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the day-to-day running of the chemistry and microbiology laboratories, including testing where required.
- Oversee the quality of production, supervising the Syrup Room using the required Quality Assurance and Quality Control techniques, providing support and leadership as deemed appropriate.
- Deputise for the nightshift Production Co-ordinator in terms of health and safety, incident management, and people management.
- Perform tasks as requested by the Quality Manager as and when required.
- Support the Quality Manager in maintaining a comprehensive I.M.S system incorporating Risk and COSHH assessments within the department.
- In conjunction with engineering, operate and maintain the water treatment plant, including cleans, where appropriate.
- Maintain stocks of consumables for the lab and water plant and external contracts, within budget. Order stock as and when necessary.
- Improve standards in Quality/Syrup Room and production, including audit preparation.
- Support the Quality Manager in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the I.M.S, Technical and Food Safety Standards (including HACCP).
- Prepare for Laboratory audits against LABCRED and ISO standards.
- Lead audits/inspections of the site against systems, GMP, hygiene standards, and Health and Safety.
- Conduct investigations into complaints and identify improvements to reduce complaint levels.
- Control all non-conforming products in accordance with Quality systems and SAP requirements.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers concerning technical issues as and when required.
- Maintain the specifications for products produced on site.
- Oversee the accurate stock control of materials within the syrup room and support the Operations Manager through the provision of stock lists and stock rotation.
- Ensure calibration and validation of key equipment is completed to schedule.
- Preparation of samples for external analysis.
- Manage the nightshift syrup and quality operators including absence management, training needs and development, and general wellbeing.
- Attend internal and external training courses, as and when required.
- Promote and execute QCDSP, CI, and 5’S processes.
- Undertake any reasonable duties as requested to meet the needs of the business.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in leading a team in manufacturing or laboratory setting.
- Ability to communicate with staff and management at all levels.
- Strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in use of IT systems including portals, SharePoint, analysis programs, and Excel.
