Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead QA across highways and bridge reconstruction projects in the North West. You will develop and maintain the QMS, drive right-first-time delivery, and work with project teams, clients, and suppliers to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and project requirements.

The role requires managing internal and external quality audits, resolving non-conformances, and producing quality reports and KPIs for senior management.

Qualifications

• Requires proven experience as Quality Manager/QA Manager on highways or major infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and quality systems.
• Experience leading internal/external quality audits across multiple sites.
• Knowledge of NCRs, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Experience with bridge/highways projects and CDM considerations.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain QMS across highways/bridge projects.
• Lead QA activities throughout project lifecycles and drive right-first-time delivery.
• Plan and conduct audits, monitor compliance with specifications and ITPs.
• Investigate non-conformances, implement corrective actions and report findings.
• Review and approve quality documentation and supplier/subcontractor QA assessments.

Quality Manager - Bridge Reconstruction Projects

Are you an experienced Quality Manager looking to play a key role on major highways infrastructure projects?

We are working with a leading highways main contractor delivering a portfolio of bridge reconstructions and structural improvement schemes across the North West. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead quality assurance, compliance and continuous improvement activities across multiple live projects.

The Role

• As Quality Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS) across a range of highways and bridge reconstruction projects.
• You will work closely with project teams, clients and supply chain partners to drive a culture of quality, compliance and right-first-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the company's Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.
• Plan and undertake internal and external quality audits across multiple project sites.
• Lead quality assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Monitor compliance with project specifications, ITPs, procedures and client requirements.
• Investigate non-conformances and quality issues, facilitating root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Produce quality reports, KPIs and audit findings for senior management and clients.
• Support project teams with quality planning, risk mitigation and continual improvement initiatives.
• Review and approve quality documentation including ITPs, quality plans and inspection records.
• Conduct supplier and subcontractor quality assessments and audits.
• Drive a right-first-time culture and promote best practice across the business.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Quality Manager, QA Manager or Senior Quality Engineer within highways, civil engineering or major infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001.
• Demonstrable experience carrying out internal and external audits.
• Experience working on bridge, highways, structures or heavy civil engineering projects.
• Knowledge of NCR management, corrective actions and continuous improvement processes.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to work across multiple projects and locations.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• Lead Auditor qualification.
• Experience with National Highways projects.
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations and infrastructure quality requirements.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Experience working with Tier 1 contractors or major civil engineering frameworks.
