Job summary

Climate17 is helping a leading North West civil engineering and infrastructure business recruit two Construction Quality Managers to lead quality assurance across civils and utilities projects. The role is site-facing with strong emphasis on embedding quality practices and right-first-time delivery.

Ideal candidates will have Level 4 / HNC in Quality (or equivalent), ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification (essential) and a track record on live projects.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 / HNC in Quality or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification, essential.
  • Lead Auditor qualification, desirable.
  • CQI practitioner status, desirable.
  • CSCS Card, desirable.
  • Experience on live civil engineering projects.
  • Experience supporting major infrastructure or regulated clients, desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Awareness of ISO 14001 and ISO 4501 in project delivery.
  • Knowledge of client specs, ITPs and quality records.
  • Knowledge of National Highways Sector Schemes, desirable.
  • Lean tools and quality principles knowledge.
  • Excellent audit, reporting and analytical skills.
  • Experience identifying trends and process weaknesses.
  • Leading, coaching and developing quality professionals.
  • Delivering training, briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Full driving license and willingness to travel in North West region.

Quality Manager - Construction (Civils) & Utilities

Climate17 is working with an established construction and infrastructure business who, due to a strong pipeline of work, is looking to recruit twoConstruction Quality Managersin the North West (Manchester based) to lead quality assurance across its portfolio of live projects, one with civils experience and the other with experience of working on utilities projects.

Thesearesite-facing and operational roles, with responsibility for embedding strong quality practices across the construction business and ensuring projects are delivered right first time. You will provide clear leadership on quality standards, compliance and continual improvement, while working closely with project teams to ensure quality requirements are effectively implemented.

The role also offers the opportunity to lead and develop a team of Quality Advisors working across multiple projects in the North West of Englandso prior management experience is beneficial but not essential as support is there, as long as you’re willing to grow into a management role in time.

The Role

As Construction Quality Manager, you will:

  • Lead quality assurance activity across a portfolio of construction projects and depending on your experience, either working on a range of utilities projects or construction projects with a strong civil engineering bias.
  • Promote and embed a proactive quality culture across the business.
  • Support the effective implementation of the company's HSQE Management Systems.
  • Provide leadership on quality standards, compliance and continual improvement.
  • Work closely with site and project teams to ensure quality requirements are implemented effectively.
  • Oversee internal audit activity, monitor corrective actions and ensure follow-through.
  • Identify recurring delivery and process weaknesses and feed findings into management system improvements.
  • Work primarily within ISO 9001, while maintaining awareness of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and NHSS 16, 23 and 30 requirements where they interface with project delivery.
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of Quality Advisors across multiple projects and regions.
  • Coordinate workloads and resources to meet changing business priorities.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and technical guidance to Quality Advisors.
  • Manage performance and support the ongoing development of the quality team.
  • Act as the escalation point for significant quality issues, customer concerns and non-conformances.
  • Deliver training, briefings and toolbox talks to project teams.
  • Promote best practice and ensure lessons learned are effectively shared across the business.
About You

You will have experience working in quality management within live civil engineering or infrastructure environments, with a strong understanding of the quality requirements associated with sectors such as highways, utilities, water, wastewater or public realm.

You will ideally have:

  • Level 4 / HNC qualification in Quality or a related subject, or equivalent practical experience.
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification, essential.
  • Lead Auditor qualification, desirable.
  • CQI practitioner status, desirable.
  • CSCS Card, desirable.
  • Experience working on live civil engineering projects.
  • Experience supporting projects for major infrastructure or regulated clients, such as highways, water companies or local authorities, desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Awareness of ISO 14001 and ISO 4501 where they interface with project delivery.
  • Knowledge of client specifications, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and quality records.
  • Knowledge of National Highways Sector Schemes, desirable.
  • Understanding of lean tools and quality principles.
  • Excellent audit, reporting and analytical skills.
  • Experience identifying trends, process weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching and developing quality professionals across multiple projects.
  • Experience delivering training sessions, briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office 365 and Teams skills.
  • A full driving license and a willingness to travel within the North West region when required.
