Job summary

Carmichael UK is currently seeking experienced Quality Inspectors to join a major highways infrastructure project in Manchester. You will conduct inspections, promote a strong quality culture, and help ensure works meet designs and project requirements.

The role involves working with delivery teams on site, coaching teams, managing non-conformances, and contributing to ITPs and handover records. A background on civil highways projects and ISO 9001 is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience on major civil engineering or highways projects.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management.
• Experience performing and recording inspections per client specs.
• Proficient IT skills including Word and Excel.
• Experience inspecting works to designs and managing NCRs.

Responsibilities

• Support site teams by providing guidance, coaching, and training to help prevent quality issues and ensure works are delivered to the required standards.
• Act as the primary point of contact for quality-related matters, helping to resolve issues efficiently and reducing escalation where possible.
• Inspect works throughout construction and at completion to confirm compliance with approved designs, specifications, and project requirements.
• Work closely with delivery teams and subcontractors to ensure quality assurance processes are fully understood and consistently applied.
• Attend and contribute to site briefings, planning sessions, and shift-start meetings, promoting quality best practice across the project.
• Report non-conformances, defects, or quality concerns to the wider quality team and support their resolution.
• Assist with the development and management of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring hold points and quality controls are followed correctly.
• Support the production of handover documentation and ensure records are maintained accurately and on time.
• Assist Quality Engineers with site surveillance activities and ongoing quality assurance monitoring.

Working closely with delivery teams on site, you will play a key role in promoting a strong quality culture, carrying out inspections, providing guidance and coaching, and ensuring works are delivered correctly first time and in accordance with project requirements.

Requirements

• Previous experience working on major civil engineering or highways projects.
• Strong knowledge of quality management systems, particularly ISO 9001:2015.
• Experience carrying out and recording formal inspections in accordance with client specifications.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Extensive experience inspecting works against approved designs and managing NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports).
• Understanding of NEC contracts and their quality requirements.
• Experience in sectors such as earthworks, piling, precast concrete, surfacing, or heavy civil engineering is highly desirable.
• Valid SMSTS qualification and relevant CSCS Card.
