Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking experienced Quality Inspectors to join a major highways infrastructure project in Manchester. You will work on-site with delivery teams, carrying out inspections and promoting a robust quality culture to ensure works meet approved designs and specifications.

Responsibilities include guiding teams, managing inspections and ITPs, recording NCRs, and helping with handover documentation. NEC contract knowledge and CSCS/SMSTS are desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience on major civil/highways projects.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality systems.
• Experience recording inspections per client specs.
• Good IT skills (Word/Excel).
• Experience with NCRs and QA processes.

• Provide guidance, coaching and training to prevent quality issues.
• Act as the primary contact for quality matters and resolve issues.
• Inspect works to confirm compliance with designs and specs.
• Work with delivery teams and subcontractors on QA processes.
• Attend site briefings and promote quality best practice.
• Report non-conformances and assist in their resolution.
• Assist with ITP development and hold point checks.
• Support handover documentation and records management.
• Assist Quality Engineers with surveillance and QA monitoring.

Job description

We are currently seeking experienced Quality Inspectors to join a significant highways infrastructure project in Manchester. Candidates must have a proven background working on major highways or civil engineering schemes and be committed to delivering work to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with delivery teams on site, you will play a key role in promoting a strong quality culture, carrying out inspections, providing guidance and coaching, and ensuring works are delivered correctly first time and in accordance with project requirements.

Responsibilities include -

• Support site teams by providing guidance, coaching, and training to help prevent quality issues and ensure works are delivered to the required standards.
• Act as the primary point of contact for quality-related matters, helping to resolve issues efficiently and reducing escalation where possible.
• Inspect works throughout construction and at completion to confirm compliance with approved designs, specifications, and project requirements.
• Work closely with delivery teams and subcontractors to ensure quality assurance processes are fully understood and consistently applied.
• Attend and contribute to site briefings, planning sessions, and shift-start meetings, promoting quality best practice across the project.
• Report non-conformances, defects, or quality concerns to the wider quality team and support their resolution.
• Assist with the development and management of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring hold points and quality controls are followed correctly.
• Support the production of handover documentation and ensure records are maintained accurately and on time.
• Assist Quality Engineers with site surveillance activities and ongoing quality assurance monitoring.

Requirements for this opportunity include -

• Previous experience working on major civil engineering or highways projects.
• Strong knowledge of quality management systems, particularly ISO 9001:2015.
• Experience carrying out and recording formal inspections in accordance with client specifications.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Extensive experience inspecting works against approved designs and managing NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports).
• Understanding of NEC contracts and their quality requirements.
• Experience in sectors such as earthworks, piling, precast concrete, surfacing, or heavy civil engineering is highly desirable.
• Valid SMSTS qualification and relevant CSCS Card.
