Job summary

Quality Inspector/Engineer role on a major highways infra project in Greater Manchester. Site-based with on-site quality control across the work, ensuring compliance with Detail Design and Work Information.

Responsibilities include independent site inspections, coaching the delivery team, and preparation of ITPs and handover docs; CSCS card and on-site quality training are preferred. 12-month contract with competitive day rate options.

Qualifications

• Experience on civil engineering projects with precast concrete, piling, earthworks and surfacing.
• Extensive on-site inspections against approved Detail Design, with NCR management.
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
• CSCS card holder.
• On-site training in Quality.

Responsibilities

• Carry out independent site inspections and coach delivery and quality teams.
• Check works in progress and on completion to ensure alignment with Work Information and Detail Design.
• Act as liaison between delivery teams and subcontractors to promote right-first-time quality.
• Represent Quality at Start of Shift meetings and Collaborative Planning sessions, escalating non-conformances.
• Assist in compiling Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and handover documentation with hold points.
• Support Quality Engineers with site surveillances and inspection documentation.
• Provide support to Quality Inspectors across other disciplines on the project.

Job Title: Quality Inspector - Major Highways Infrastructure Project

Location: M60 Simister Island Interchange, Greater Manchester (Site-based)

Contract Type: Contract - 12 Months

Rate: PAYE Umbrella & Ltd company available

Start Date: ASAP

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quality Inspector/Engineer to join a major motorway junction improvement scheme in Greater Manchester, working for a leading principal contractor on one of the North West's busiest and most high-profile road infrastructure projects.

As Quality Inspector, you will act as the first line of defence in promoting a strong quality culture across the site, supporting the Delivery Team through coaching, training and on-site presence, while carrying out independent inspections of the works to ensure compliance with the approved Detail Design and Work Information.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a quality professional with a civils background to play a key role on a nationally significant infrastructure scheme.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out independent site inspections and act as first line of defence against substandard work, coaching and training the Delivery and Quality teams


• Check works in progress and on completion to ensure construction is in line with the Work Information and Detail Design


• Act as the point of liaison between delivery teams and sub-contractors, promoting a \"right first time\" quality culture


• Represent the Quality team at Start of Shift meetings and Collaborative Planning sessions, escalating non-conformances to Quality Managers/Engineers


• Assist in the compilation of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and handover documentation, ensuring hold points are adhered to


• Support Quality Engineers with site surveillances and formal inspection documentation in line with client requirements


• Provide support to Quality Inspectors across other disciplines on the project as required

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience working on civil engineering projects, ideally including precast concrete, piling, earthworks and surfacing


• Extensive experience of on-site inspections against approved Detail Design, with onsite NCR management


• Competent in MS Word and Excel


• Relevant CSCS card


• On-site training in Quality

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience in a quality role on a major roads infrastructure project


• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems


• SMSTS


• Understanding of NEC contracts
