Job description

Role: QC Operative

Shift: 4 on 4 off shift pattern

Salary: £13.02 (£14.32 after training)

The Quality Assurance role will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in the washing and packing process of carrots and parsnips. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of food safety regulations and quality control procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Control: Monitor the washing and packing processes to ensure carrots and parsnips meet the company's quality standards.
  • Inspection: Conduct regular inspections of the produce to check for defects, contamination, and adherence to quality guidelines.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, quality checks, and any issues encountered during the process. Be able to print and understand machine reports and temperature print outs.
  • Compliance: Ensure all washing and packing operations comply with food safety regulations and company policies.
  • Training: Train staff on quality control procedures and best practices in washing and packing.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on quality assurance activities and communicate findings to management.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve quality issues in a timely manner
  • Equipment Calibration: Regularly calibrate and maintain equipment used in the washing and packing processes to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Risk Assessment: Make decisions based on risk assessments to ensure the safety and quality of the produce.
  • GMP & Glass/Plastic Audit: Conduct audits to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) & Glass and plastic audits.
  • Managing Non-Conformances: Identify, document, and manage non-conformance to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Lab Samples Collection: Collect samples for microbiological testing.
  • Shelf-Life Management: Conduct assessments to monitor and manage the shelf life of produce.
  • Traceability Exercises: Complete regular traceability exercises to verify that all produce can be traced through each stage of the washing and packing process, ensuring swift response in the event of a food safety incident and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Challenging Non-Compliance: Address instances of non-compliance in a constructive and respectful manner, ensuring staff understand the importance of adhering to quality standards and food safety regulations while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Regularly evaluate processes, encourage staff feedback, and implement best practices to drive ongoing enhancements in efficiency, quality, and safety. Foster a culture where innovation and learning are valued, ensuring the factory consistently adapts and progresses towards its goals, and maintains a competitive edge in the industry.
