Job description

At Butternut, we put the food back into dog food. We believe dogs deserve to eat the healthiest, most natural and tastiest food with none of the nasties. That’s why we make freshly prepared dog food, cooked like you would at home, and delivered in perfect portions.

Our goal is to help dogs live healthier, happier, and longer lives while leaving humans smiling after every interaction. Since our co-founders Kev & Dave hand-delivered the first Butternut Box, we have grown significantly, feeding many dogs across the UK, and we aim to expand globally. To achieve this, we seek brilliant people who share our ambition.

Butternut has grown since Kev & Dave (co-founders) delivered the first box, and they are now looking for talented individuals to join us for the next chapter.

A bit about the role

As a Quality Technician, you will report to the Technical Manager at Rudie's Kitchen and ensure that our quality systems and processes are operated effectively. You will maintain product quality from raw materials to dispatched goods.

This role combines aspects of a standard Quality role and that of a Senior QA, offering the independence of a senior position without line management responsibilities. The role offers an attractive salary of £40,678.72 per year.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Proactively managing process and system control through team education.
  2. Conducting product testing on incoming raw materials and finished goods.
  3. Monitoring and trending product quality, identifying improvements, and collaborating with other departments.
  4. Completing scheduled QA tasks such as GMP, calibrations, audits, and sampling.
  5. Investigating non-conformances and implementing corrective actions.
  6. Participating in process trials.
  7. Ensuring new products, processes, and equipment are integrated smoothly and supported by our Quality Management System.

This is a full-time, permanent role with a rotating shift pattern of approximately 41 hours per week, including days, nights, and weekends, with shifts from 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am. Typical rotations include:

  1. 4 days on, 4 days off (2 days, 2 nights)
  2. 5 days on, 5 days off (3 days, 2 nights)
  3. 5 days on, 5 days off (2 days, 3 nights)

Required qualifications and qualities include previous QA lead experience, adaptability, resilience, a strong understanding of food manufacturing processes, and a passion for dogs. Benefits include holiday entitlement, personal development budgets, enhanced parental leave, private healthcare, gym discounts, subsidized food, employee discounts on Butternut Box, free parking, and the chance to work alongside our office dogs.

Additional notes:

  • This role is based in Blyth, south of Doncaster, and requires commuting to this location.
  • We aim to respond to all applications but may take up to 2 weeks due to high volume.
  • We are committed to diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from underrepresented groups.
  • We do not work with external recruitment agencies for this role.

We look forward to your application!
