Job summary

Protocol Education are seeking a qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Newcastle. You will provide personalised support to pupils with additional needs, helping them access learning and feel safe, engaged in school life.

The role includes 1:1 and small-group support, working with teachers and therapists, and using visual timetables and sensory strategies to aid learning and behaviour management.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Patient, calm and compassionate approach.

Responsibilities

Protocol Education are looking for qualified and experienced Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEND school in Newcastle.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated TA who enjoys working with pupils with additional needs and wants to make a genuine difference to their learning, development and wellbeing.

You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to provide personalised support to pupils, helping them feel safe, confident and able to engage in school life.

The Role

You may be supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including:

• Autism and ASC
• Complex and profound learning needs
• SEMH and behavioural needs
• Communication and interaction difficulties
• Sensory needs
• Physical and medical needs
• EHCP-related support requirements
• 1:1 and small-group learning

Your responsibilities could include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Supporting pupils to access learning and classroom activities
• Helping deliver individual learning programmes and interventions
• Using visual timetables, communication strategies and sensory approaches
• Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Encouraging independence and life skills
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and wider support staff
• Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment

We're Looking For

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent relevant experience
• Previous experience working in a school, specialist setting or education environment
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
• A patient, calm and compassionate approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Confidence supporting pupils with complex or additional needs
• A willingness to learn and develop your SEND knowledge
• A genuine commitment to helping every pupil reach their potential
