What is the purpose of this job?
To help the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) achieve its political and policy objectives by engaging with political and third-party stakeholders, creating coalitions of support and advocacy for key initiatives. Undertake and support direct engagement with decision-makers and influencers to secure desired outcomes.

What can I expect to do in this job?
- Lead responses to enquiries from parliamentarians by researching topics and preparing replies on behalf of RDG's CEO and senior colleagues, establishing RDG as the first point of contact for industry-wide queries.
- Provide regular updates, intelligence, analysis, and public affairs support to team members, senior colleagues, the Chair of RDG, and members.
- Design and implement parliamentary engagement programs with MPs, peers, researchers, supporting policies like accessibility, inclusion, safety, industrial relations, and customer information.
- Monitor legislation development, legislative processes, and parliamentary proceedings across Westminster, Whitehall, devolved assemblies, and local government.
- Assist the Senior External Affairs Manager and Head of Communications in developing public affairs strategies and campaigns tailored to different audiences.
- Lead monitoring of political parties' annual conferences, analyzing and providing intelligence to the RDG's leadership.
- Support engagement with the Secretary of State for Transport, Rail Minister, and other senior politicians, including preparing members for evidence sessions and organizing political events.
- Contribute to communication functions, including planning for campaigns, drafting communication materials, and participating in out-of-hours services.
- Draft responses to political consultations and develop subject-specific reports as needed.

Requirements
Experience, skills, and knowledge needed:
- Degree-level education
- Experience in political, public affairs, or campaigning roles
- Proven success in communications campaigns aligning with corporate goals
- Strong understanding of parliamentary processes, legislation, civil service, and political parties
- Knowledge of campaign strategies and media roles in public affairs
- Ability to build relationships with opinion leaders and decision-makers across political spectrums
- Political acumen and sensitivity, especially within the rail sector
- Creative and strategic thinking for public affairs campaigns
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with attention to detail
- Strong analytical and research skills, capable of managing workload under pressure
- Enthusiastic, organized, resilient, flexible, and a team player with integrity
- Motivated to advocate for RDG's role in a reformed rail system
