Job summary

First Essex Buses Ltd at Basildon Depot is seeking an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join a busy team. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, and keep vehicles running safely, with upskilling in electric vehicle maintenance as the depot is electrified.

The role offers a 4-on/4-off style week, 39 hours minimum with shifts 05:00–15:00 or 14:30–00:30, a joining bonus of £2,000 and potential extra earnings from weekend premium.

Qualifications

• NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in vehicle maintenance & repair required.
• Experience on PSV/HGV is preferred but not mandatory; ex-forces with engineering apprenticeship welcomed.
• Valid UK driving licence is required.
• Joining bonus terms apply and right-to-work in the UK must be confirmed.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs and part replacements as needed.
• Perform scheduled servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries; road test vehicles when required.
• Ensure documentation complies with regulations and health and safety standards.
