Job summary

FirstGroup plc is recruiting a PSV/HGV Mechanic at the Sheffield Olive Grove Depot. The role involves diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, servicing and inspections, and responding to breakdowns to keep vehicles safe and reliable.

A Level 3 NVQ/SVQ in vehicle maintenance or equivalent is required, with HGV/PSV experience and a valid UK driving licence. The position operates on a 4 on, 4 off early shift, with a typical weekly hours expectation of around 38.5 hours and an annualised earnings

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults in PSV/HGV vehicles and perform mechanical repairs.
• Carry out scheduled servicing and routine inspections.
• Replace parts as needed and ensure repairs meet safety standards.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries as required.
• Road test vehicles and document maintenance accurately per regulations.

Position: PSV/HGV Mechanic

Location: Olive Grove, Sheffield, S2 3GA

We are now looking for an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Sheffield Olive Grove Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £21.61 per hour


• Minimum 38.5 hours per week


• Approx. £43,263 per annum


• 4 on 4 off - early shift

In this hands-on role, you’ll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You’ll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on-road breakdowns and recoveries. You’ll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?


• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?


• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?


• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
