Job summary

FirstGroup plc in Glasgow Caledonia Depot is seeking a NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join our busy team. You will diagnose faults, carry out repairs and perform servicing on PSV/HGV vehicles to keep them safe and reliable.

The role requires a minimum 37 hours per week, five days over seven, with early shifts from 6am to 2pm and a £2,000 joining bonus. A valid UK driving licence and a hands-on, detail-focused approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience working on HGV or PSV.
• Valid UK driving licence.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Keep vehicles running safely by diagnosing faults and carrying out mechanical repairs.
• Carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries and road test as required.
• Ensure documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

Education

NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Glasgow Caledonia Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £21.54 per hour
• Approx. £41,442 per annum
• Minimum 37 hours per week
• 5 days over 7 (including 1 weekend in 3)
• 6am-2pm (start/finish times negotiable)
• £2,000 joining bonus!

Further pay increase scheduled for April 2027.

In this hands-on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on-road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
