Job summary

FirstGroup plc operates a PSV/HGV maintenance role at the Lowestoft Depot. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, service vehicles and respond to breakdowns to keep fleet safety and reliability high.

We seek NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in vehicle maintenance, HGV/PSV experience, a valid UK driving licence, and a keen eye for detail. The role includes a joining bonus and a 5‑day, 7‑day shift rotation.

Qualifications

• NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds equivalent) in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience working on HGV or PSV vehicles is preferred.
• Valid UK driving licence required.
• Strong attention to detail and passion for mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults on PSV/HGV vehicles and carry out mechanical repairs.
• Replace worn parts and carry out scheduled servicing and inspections.
• Respond to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries and road test vehicles.
• Ensure documentation and repair records meet health, safety and regulatory standards.

PSV/HGV Mechanic

Location:

Lowestoft Depot, Gas works Road, Lowestoft, NR32 1UZ

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Lowestoft Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details:

• £21.55 per hour
• Weekend premium rate of £22.19 per hour
• Minimum 39 hours per week
• Approx. £43,703 per annum
• 5 days over 7 (including weekends)
• Rotation of early and late shifts
• £2,000 JOINING BONUS!

In this hands-on role, you’ll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You’ll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on-road breakdowns and recoveries. You’ll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
