Job summary

FirstGroup plc is seeking a PSV/HGV Lead Mechanic for our Bristol Hengrove Depot. The role combines hands-on vehicle work with leadership of the engineering team to deliver reliable service daily.

You will oversee staff and workshop operations, monitor performance, and ensure compliance. The position runs 39 hours per week, Monday–Friday 6pm–2am, with weekday and weekend overtime paid at premium rates.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience working on HGV or PSV.
• Valid UK driving licence.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.
• Good degree of literacy and supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Build strong teams in the depot and deliver a great service daily.
• Monitor the daily running of the engineering dept and all engineering staff; supervise in the absence of management.
• Balance hands-on repairs/diagnostics (30%) with staff management and workshop admin (70%).
• Ensure compliance and effective workshop administration.

PSV/HGV Lead Mechanic
Location: Bristol Hengrove Depot, BS4 1UJ

Key Details

• £45,150 per annum
• Weekday overtime paid at £26.70 per hour
• Weekend overtime paid at £35.60 per hour
• 39 hours per week Monday-Friday 6pm-2am

In this role you will ensure strong teams are built in the depot, by consistently delivering a great service everyday. You will monitor the daily running of the engineering dept and all engineering staff, and supervise in the absence of the Engineering management team. This role operates on a roughly 30/70 ratio of 30% on the tools, hands on with repairs and diagnostics and 70% managing staff, compliance and workshop admin.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
• Do you have a good degree of literacy and supervisory experience?
