Job summary

Legal & General (L&G) is recruiting for an Initial Risk Underwriter to join the Retail Protection team. You’ll assess protection applications, weigh mortality and morbidity risk factors, and make fair, balanced decisions within your authority level.

You don't necessarily need a traditional underwriting path; prior life assurance, protection, customer service, or relevant medical/scientific background is welcome. Training will support your development.

Qualifications

• Understanding of mortality and morbidity risk factors.
• Experience in life assurance, protection, customer service or underwriting.
• Interest in developing a career in underwriting.
• Ability to review different pieces of information and reach balanced decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisation and ability to prioritise workload.
• Knowledge of Life, Critical Illness or Income Protection products is beneficial.
• Knowledge of regulation or underwriting systems would be helpful, training can be provided.

• Reviewing customer applications and assessing risk factors
• Making balanced underwriting decisions within your authority level
• Escalating more complex cases when required
• Requesting additional information from customers and medical professionals
• Responding to customer and stakeholder queries clearly and professionally
