Job description

Cardiff’s Education and Lifelong Learning Directorate is committed to delivering excellence and equity in education across the city. We work collaboratively with schools, governors, and communities to ensure every learner has access to high-quality teaching and inclusive learning environments. Our vision is aligned with the Council’s Stronger, Fairer, Greener and Cardiff 2030 strategies, and we are proud to champion innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement across our education system.

The service now operates a hybrid working model which enables employees to work flexibly from home or from an office base, depending upon service requirements.

About the job

This is a key post responsible for supporting planning and ensuring a sufficiency of high-quality school places across the city. Duties include the research and production of information and statistical data to support the School Organisation Programme; developing and implementing tools and processes for school organisation issues, and drawing together information to produce appropriate documentation and presentations to enable proper consideration of issues and investment plans by key stakeholders (Director, Cabinet, Welsh Government, school representatives, parents, children and young people etc.)

The post holder will engage with colleagues within the Education and Lifelong Learning Directorate and across the Council and our wider partnership forums taking a coherent and collaborative approach to support the School Organisation Programme.

What We Are Looking For From You

You must have experience of applying the skills of researching from a range of sources, bringing evidence together and drawing conclusions in clear reports.

Proficiency in using IT, in particular use and manipulation of spreadsheets to support and present interpretation and analysis of complex information, is required.

You must have good communication and organisational skills and be committed to meeting customer needs. You should be able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including education professionals and members of the public.

Empowering children and young people to meaningfully participate in the planning of school provision in Cardiff is a key aspect of this role. You must be able to plan and execute consultations which elicit their views, ensuring that these views are heard by relevant decision makers.

This is a challenging position requiring the ability to meet deadlines and enable the School Organisation Programme Team to achieve their goals.

Additional information

This role is part-time at 19.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. The advertised salary is based on a full-time role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). The actual salary will be lower than the advertised salary because of the part-time hours and weeks worked.

Appointment to this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a Child Workforce Barred List check.

Safeguarding and Child Protection are key priorities for the Council. We aim to support children and vulnerable adults to ensure they are as safe as they can possibly be. Our services and schools are committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all children and vulnerable adults, and will take action to safeguard their well-being, and acknowledge that children and vulnerable adults have a right to protection. This is supported in the general ethos of the Council and all schools.

We understand you might use AI and other resources for your application; however, please ensure all information you provide is factually accurate, truthful, original and does not include ideas or work that is not your own.

We welcome applications in both English and Welsh. Applications received in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than English applications.
