Job summary

Northern Powergrid is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a portfolio of operational and transformation initiatives across its regional operations. You will coordinate multiple workstreams, develop detailed plans, and ensure delivery within scope, time, and budget.

You will influence stakeholders, manage risks, and drive change through governance forums, while focusing on continuous improvement, safety, and regulatory compliance across the business.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of a portfolio of operational, transformation, and performance improvement projects, ensuring outcomes are delivered on time and within budget.
• Coordinate multiple workstreams across Regional Operations and wider business functions.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, milestones, dependencies, risks, and resource requirements.
• Establish effective project governance, providing regular reporting and performance insights to senior leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the delivery of a portfolio of operational, transformation, and performance improvement projects, ensuring agreed outcomes are delivered on time, and within budget.
• Coordinate multiple workstreams across Regional Operations and wider business functions, maintaining alignment to strategic objectives and operational priorities.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, milestones, dependencies, risks, and resource requirements to ensure successful project delivery.
• Establish effective project governance, providing regular reporting, progress updates, and performance insights to senior leaders and project sponsors.
• Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks, issues, and barriers, escalating where appropriate and driving timely resolution.
• Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation to build support, manage expectations, and ensure successful implementation of change.
• Facilitate workshops, project meetings, and review sessions to drive accountability, decision-making, and delivery momentum.
• Track and measure project benefits, ensuring operational improvements are embedded and deliver sustainable performance outcomes.
• Coordinate activities across internal teams, contractors, and external partners to ensure projects are delivered effectively and consistently.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance operational performance, efficiency, customer outcomes, and employee engagement.
• Ensure all project activities are delivered in accordance with Northern Powergrid's safety, governance, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Attributes

Essential Qualifications:

• Full UK driving licence with the ability to travel across the Northern Powergrid operating area.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Degree qualified or equivalent relevant professional experience.
• Recognised project management qualification (PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ, PMP or equivalent).
• Evidence of continuing professional development in project, programme, or change management.
• Proven experience in a Project Manager or similar role, with a successful track record of delivering multiple projects concurrently within a complex operational environment.
• Experience working within the utilities sector, with a strong understanding of the energy industry.
• Experience within electricity distribution would be highly advantageous.
